Welcome to Episode 6 of the PointsHoarder podcast where we’re focusing on oneworld and redemption through the Avios program of British Airways and Iberia. Turns out that it doesn’t completely suck.
There’s also some discussions on route cuts at Delta and United and a few other bits, too.
A HUGE thanks to the awesome CCHeim for the great new intro and outro recordings. We almost sound cool now. 😀

Also, one minor addition to the podcast that I forgot to mention in the original discussion: If at all possible, redeem Avios via Iberia rather than British Airways. You’ll likely save a lot of cash on the fuel surcharge side of things.
I am inspired to take a SFO-PDX trip this Nov for some foodtrucks and tax-free shopping (maybe an iPhone or other Apple products).
Avios appears to be the best currency for multiple tickets. 4 R/T tickets…only 36K Avios (bmi miles). Alternatively, it would’ve been only 24K AX MR pts w/ the recent transfer bonus.
I found availability on Alaskan Airlines, but too bad I will have to call to book. That $100 (4 x $25) booking fee is super annoying, esp. since a small % has gotten it waived.
I think you nailed it, David. Trips like that are great examples of solid value from the Avios program. Thanks for sharing!
My favorite use went unchanged with the new Avios program. JFK-YVR for 25k/50k/75k R/T. Works perfectly for our once every few years Whistler snowboard trip and it’s a great way to experience international J or F without a huge outlay of miles.
That is a great award, infamousdx. I love Vancouver and that would be a great way to get there, though the timing on the flights is a bit less than ideal.
