Is the sky falling? Are we reaching the end of a fantastic run? Or is this just a minor adjustment in the world of points & miles? That’s the main topic of this week’s PointsHoarder podcast as we discuss multiple devaluations which were announced so far in November. We’ve got:
- Hilton making another change to their award charts, cutting fixed points earning
- Hyatt adding a new Category 7 and jacking up rates for upgrade awards
- Delta deciding that one devaluation wasn’t enough so they’ve announced a second, interim move
- United Airlines making so many changes that it is baffling, with split charts for partners and some awards rising 75%
Yeah, not a great couple weeks recently for those playing the game.
On the plus side, Emirates is now a partner with AmEx Membership Rewards and they’ve got a 25% bonus going on for transfers these days. You will pay fuel surcharges on the awards but it is another option to have.
And the FAA relaxed rules on using electronics on board. We all share some of our experiences with the actual implementation of the rules now that they’re in place.
Finally, I rant about how Doha and Dubai sortof suck.
